DECODING DIGITAL ENTRY.
Travel is becoming increasingly digital. Understanding the difference between an eVisa, an eTA, and an Arrival Card is crucial to avoid being denied boarding.
e-Visa
Electronic Visa
A complete digital replacement for the traditional sticker in your passport. It usually requires full application details, document uploads, and an approval wait time (2-5 days).
eTA
Electronic Travel Authority
A lighter security pre-screen for travelers who generally don't need a visa. It links electronically to your passport number. Approval is often instant or within minutes.
Arrival Card
Health & Customs Form
Not a visa. This is the digital version of the paper form you used to fill out on the plane. It tracks health, accommodation, and customs declarations. Mandatory for entry.
Regional Systems
ESTA
The Electronic System for Travel Authorization. Mandatory for Visa Waiver Program (VWP) travelers entering the USA by air or sea. It is valid for 2 years.
β οΈ Critical Note: If you have visited Cuba, Iran, or Syria recently, you may not be eligible for ESTA and must apply for a physical visa at an embassy. Check US Portal
ETIAS
The European Travel Information and Authorisation System. Launching end of 2026. It will be mandatory for visitors from visa-exempt countries (US, UK, Canada, etc.) entering the Schengen Zone.
π Status: Not yet active. Currently expected to launch in the end of 2026. No application is currently required. Check EU Portal
UK ETA
The Electronic Travel Authorisation. Rolling out now (2025). It will be mandatory for all non-visa nationals (including US & EU citizens) visiting the UK to apply digitally before travel.
