• From September 1, 2026, India will cease stamping physical boarding passes for international departures, allowing passengers to use electronic versions.
• This digital streamlining by the Bureau of Immigration aims to simplify exit procedures for all travellers.
• Regarding entry, foreign nationals must continue to hold a valid visa or e-Visa, unless exempt.

 South Africa critical

• The Department of Home Affairs launched a R500 electronic processing fee for its Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system on 12 August.
• This fee is outlined in the First Amendment of the Regulations on Fees under the Immigration Act.
• Travellers from visa-required countries exempt from visa fees will now pay only R500 for the ETA.

 European Union standard

• The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) was initially scheduled for launch in autumn 2026.
• Official EU website information has been updated, removing the previous launch quarter and stating a new date will be announced.
• This delay, possibly until 2027, follows implementation difficulties with the Entry/Exit System (EES), to which ETIAS is closely linked.

 Thailand critical

• The Cabinet approved significant revisions to the visa exemption scheme on July 14, 2026.
• The 60-day visa exemption, previously covering up to 93 countries, has been cancelled, with most now limited to 30 days.
• Six additional countries, including India and four EU states, now receive a 30-day exemption, while Mauritius and Seychelles are limited to 15 days.
