Chad's eVisa Platform Use Surges Ahead of African Visa Exemption

Chad's e-Visa system now processes over 100 applications daily, three months before African nationals become visa-exempt.

Chad launched its electronic visa on 11 December 2024 to simplify application processes. The National Police reported a significant increase in usage, with daily applications rising from under 10 at launch to over 100. Since 11 May 2026, the e-Visa has been mandatory for foreign travellers requiring a visa. Express processing generally takes 24 to 72 hours, while standard applications can take 10 to 15 days.

The platform covers all standard visa categories, though requirements vary by applicant profile and activity. Several specialised services, including Interpol, are involved in rigorous screening of applications. The e-Visa department manages the electronic procedure from registration to approval, including biometric enrolment and platform security.

This expansion precedes a major change effective 1 January 2027, when Chad will waive entry visa requirements for all African nationals. Until then, these nationals must use the e-Visa platform if a visa is required. Details regarding the maximum length of visa-free stays and any additional entry formalities for African nationals are yet to be clarified.
