Cuba Launches New eVisa Application Portal with Expanded Categories
Cuba has introduced a new official online portal for electronic visa applications, expanding available visa categories for travellers.
Cuba's Ministry of Tourism, through its office in Canada, announced the launch of a new official website for electronic visa applications on 4 November 2026. The new portal, www.consular.cu, replaces the previous eVisaCuba system, which experienced service disruptions during a migration to a new version called Evisa2.
This updated platform now allows travellers to apply for three types of Cuban visas: a tourist visa, a family visa, or a business exploration visa. Previously, the eVisaCuba system primarily catered to electronic tourist visa applications. The portal offers interfaces in English, Spanish, and French, and includes a service for checking visa status and validity.
Travellers initiating an application must first verify their email address and then select their country of application and the appropriate Cuban consular office. For example, applicants from the United States can select the Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C. After providing personal details such as nationality, passport information, and date of birth, applicants must upload an image of their passport.
A significant enhancement is the ability to submit multiple visa requests within a single application process, supporting up to ten travellers. This feature aims to streamline applications for families and groups. However, the new portal does not facilitate direct online credit or debit card payments.
Applicants are required to pay applicable fees using methods specified by their chosen consular office, such as cash, bank transfer, money order, or bank deposit. Proof of payment must then be uploaded to the platform to complete the application. A tourist visa, for instance, costs $50 when applied for through the Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C. This payment structure reflects ongoing financial restrictions affecting Cuba's access to international banking and payment processing services.
