ETIAS Launch Potentially Delayed to 2027 for Schengen Area Travellers

The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) for visa-exempt visitors to 30 European countries could be postponed until 2027. This potential delay follows operational challenges encountered during the rollout of the Entry/Exit System (EES). ETIAS will apply to nationals of 59 visa-exempt countries, including those from the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada, for short stays in the Schengen Area and Cyprus. The application fee for this pre-travel authorisation was recently increased to €20. Official confirmation from the European Commission on the revised timeline is still pending.
