EU Postpones ETIAS Rollout Again, Now Expected 2027
The European Union has again postponed the launch of its ETIAS travel authorisation system until 2027.
The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) will not see a full rollout until 2027, following earlier delays from its original November 2023 target. This electronic travel authorisation is required for visitors from visa-exempt nations, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, entering 30 European countries. The postponement aims to allow time to resolve ongoing issues with the Entry/Exit System (EES), an automated biometric framework already in place. When launched, the digital application will cost €20, last for three years or until the passport expires, and will not collect biometric data. Travel advisors may submit individual applications on behalf of clients with a formal declaration of representation.
