ICAO Upgrades the PKD, the Backbone of Digital Document Checks

The International Civil Aviation Organization operates the Public Key Directory, which distributes the certificates border authorities use to verify that an electronic passport or digital travel credential is genuine and unaltered.

The directory has been upgraded, improving the infrastructure that underpins those checks.

This is the layer beneath every biometric gate and digital travel document. It rarely appears in travel coverage, and almost nothing at the border works without it.
