India Explores Simpler Tourist Visas, Visa-on-Arrival, and E-Visa Improvements
India is exploring simpler tourist visa rules, including visa-on-arrival for some nationalities and e-Visa portal improvements.
An Indian government report recommends a gradual introduction of a 90-day, multiple-entry Tourist Visa-on-Arrival for selected nationalities. This scheme would reduce pre-departure formalities for eligible travellers upon arrival at designated entry points. The report also highlights proposed improvements to the electronic visa portal, aiming for a simpler, more reliable application process, addressing existing complexities and technical issues. These changes are currently recommendations and have not yet been implemented. India currently has a limited visa-on-arrival system for nationals of Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.
