India Introduces eVisa Transfer Service for New Passports

India's official electronic visa portal now offers an online service to transfer e-Visas to new travel documents. Applicants must provide details of their new passport, upload a current photo, and a copy of their new passport's biographical page.

This service is exclusively for one-year and five-year e-Visas, including e-Tourist and e-Business types, and excludes shorter validity periods. It is designed for instances where the previous passport was lost, stolen, or not returned to the holder.

The existing rule permitting travel with both old and new passports remains valid if the old passport is still available. Further clarification is awaited regarding processing times, potential fees, and the format of the transferred authorisation.
