Malaysia restricts multiple-entry visa to 31 nationalities and four purposes

Malaysia has restricted its Multiple Entry Visa eligibility to 31 nationalities and four specific travel purposes since September 2026.

The updated policy, effective from 1 September 2026, significantly tightens access to the Malaysia Multiple Entry Visa (MEV). Previously available more broadly, the MEV is now exclusively offered to applicants from 31 specific nationalities. Furthermore, the visa's purpose is limited to business, fly and cruise, medical treatment, or wedding tourism only. Regular tourist visits, holidays, or general family visits are no longer permissible reasons for an MEV application. Affected travellers requiring a visa for such purposes will typically need to apply for a Single Entry Visa instead.

While a formal list of the 31 nationalities is pending, portal checks indicate these align with existing e-Visa eligible countries. The validity period of the MEV, offering multiple entries within six months with 30 days per visit, remains unchanged.
