Philippines Launches E-Visa for 37 Nationalities Residing in UAE

The Philippines has introduced an electronic visa option for short-term visitors from 37 countries who hold valid UAE residence visas.

The Philippine Government has inaugurated a new electronic visa (e-visa) service, named eVisaPH, which is accessible via the evisa.gov.ph website. This digital offering provides an alternative to the traditional sticker visa for eligible travellers planning short-term visits to the Philippines.

Applicants can now complete the entire visa application process from their homes or offices, eliminating the previous requirement for a physical appearance at a consulate or embassy. However, consular officers retain the discretion to request original documents or schedule personal interviews, particularly in cases involving common names or for background checks.

This e-visa facilitates applications for various purposes, including business, tourism, medical treatment, training, conferences, meetings, and workshops. A key feature of the new e-visa is that it is explicitly non-extendable and non-convertible, unlike the traditional sticker visas which can be extended through the Bureau of Immigration.

The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai launched its e-visa services following a press conference, having already issued 10 e-visas during its two-week beta-testing phase. The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi conducted a pilot study of the system last year.

The official launch of the e-visa system occurred at the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai, China, on August 24, 2023, after a month-long beta-testing period. This initiative forms part of the Department of Foreign Affairs' broader digitalisation and modernisation programme, aiming to streamline consular services.

The service specifically targets citizens from 37 countries who possess valid residence visas for the United Arab Emirates. While the complete list is available on the eVisaPH website, examples include nationals from Yemen, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The government hopes this new option will attract more adventurous and seasoned travellers to the Philippines, making it a more accessible destination for those previously without direct ties to the country.
