Solomon Islands Launches New eVisa System for Travellers

The new border management system and Electronic Visa System were officially implemented on 6 September 2026. This system streamlines visa applications, processing, and approvals online, replacing previous manual methods and reducing wait times. New Immigration (Amendment) Visa Regulations 2025 introduce 34 visa categories across 11 subclasses. Most tourists now apply online, receiving pre-entry authorisation for an initial 30 days visa-free, with options to extend up to 180 days. Countries with visa exemption arrangements, including the European Union and China, now require a Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa support note and a government ministry sponsor letter. An operational online payment gateway is also available for visa fees. The Immigration Division expects these reforms to balance border protection with eased legitimate travel.
