South Africa Introduces Mandatory Online Traveller Declaration for All Arrivals and Departures
South Africa now requires all travellers to submit an online declaration before entering or leaving the country.
Effective 1 July 2026, the South African Revenue Service introduced a mandatory online traveller declaration. This new requirement applies to all individuals, including citizens, permanent residents, and foreign nationals. Declarations must be submitted electronically before travel, covering goods, currency, or other items subject to customs reporting. The measure applies to all ports of entry and departure, across air, land, sea, and rail. While pre-travel submission is encouraged for a smoother experience, failure to complete it in advance will not automatically result in denied entry or departure.
