South Africa's Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) will officially launch on August 12, 2026, with expansion planned for September.
The Electronic Travel Authorisation will be formally unveiled by President Cyril Ramaphosa at OR Tambo International Airport near Johannesburg. This system has been available since October 2025 for nationals of China, India, Indonesia, and Mexico, initially for G20 delegates and later for tourists. The ETA is expected to expand to all other visa-required nationalities in September 2026, but will remain optional for visa-exempt travellers. Applications are typically processed within 24 hours, allowing for faster border clearance at selected airports.
