Eswatini
critical
Eswatini to address eVisa system issues for improved visitor entry.
- The Prime Minister acknowledged current eVisa system shortcomings at the Tourism Nkwe Indaba conference on 17 September 2026.
- These issues include delays in application processing, payment failures, and the absence of a manual backup, particularly affecting peak travel times.
- Industry representatives have reported visitors waiting up to five days for visas and some being stranded at the airport upon arrival.

Nepal plans digital identity app for foreign visitors
- The proposed system would allow foreign visitors to use their digital passport and visa details for identity verification.
- This includes procedures such as hotel check-ins, domestic flights, currency exchange transactions, and certain security checks.
- The app would link directly to the Department of Immigration's central database and could also be used for visa extension applications.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong Introduces "Go Hong Kong" App for Faster Frequent Visitor Entry
- The "Go Hong Kong" mobile application, launched on 16 September 2026, enables eligible travellers to complete e-Channel registration prior to their visit.
- Previously, foreign visitors typically registered for automated immigration gates only upon arrival in Hong Kong.
- Applicants must be at least 18, hold an eligible electronic travel document, have no adverse record, and have made two previous entries via Hong Kong International Airport within 24 months.

Laos
positive
Laos Extends e-Visa Entry Validity to 180 Days Temporarily
- The temporary measure, observed since April 2026 and still active in September 2026, grants travellers more time to utilise their authorisation to enter the country.
- While the standard validity for using the e-Visa is 60 days from approval, current notifications state 180 days.
- This change offers greater flexibility for entry but does not alter the permitted maximum stay, which remains 30 days.

Tanzania
critical
Tanzania Publishes Regulations for Mandatory $44 Inbound Travel Insurance
- The Insurance (Inbound Travel Insurance) Regulations, 2026, published on 4 September 2026, detail mandatory $44 insurance for foreign nationals entering mainland Tanzania.
- The policy, valid for up to 92 days and allowing multiple entries, covers emergency medical treatment, evacuation, repatriation, and baggage loss.
- Visitors may purchase the insurance before travel or upon arrival, but those without it risk denied entry.
